Pamela Kimmel, Associate Professor Emerita, taught on the faculty of Chicago College of Performing Arts of Roosevelt University from 1972, when she initiated one of Chicago’s first degree programs in classical guitar, until retirement in 2012.
During her long teaching career, Ms. Kimmel has performed as a soloist and chamber music recitalist, appearing throughout the Midwest on concert series, as well as WFMT radio. She has collaborated extensively with flutists Kaye Clements and Carlyn Lloyd.
Ms. Kimmel’s scholarly interests include studying various schools of guitar technique and pedagogy as well as doing research on focal dystonia, a neurological condition that afflicts many classical musicians. She has been a contributor to Guitar Foundation of America’s Soundboard magazine and Chicago Guitar. She is past president and board member of the Chicago Classical Guitar Society and served on the Board of Trustees of the Guitar Foundation of America from 2007-2015.
